Project Challenges & Solutions

Weather Management

To mitigate winter weather delays, additional equipment was mobilized to ensure proper compaction of material, and the work schedule was adjusted to include additional hours when the weather was favorable.

Excavation Challenges

To work around operational CCR basins, the basins were drawn down as much as possible to allow excavation while still keeping them in operation. Additionally, cofferdams were deployed in areas where the drawdown was insufficient.

Design Challenges

Design challenges were overcome through the use of GPS excavators with waterproof components. Trans Ash was able to install the aggregate below the water level, both safely and within design tolerances.
